This is a must when cooking healthy foods, or any foods for that matter: seasoning!
When I cook I try to use as little salt and sugar as possible. And believe me, your tastebuds adapt after some detoxing . You'll find foods too salty instead of vice versa.
This is what I always have at home:
- garlic fresh and dried
- dried cilantro
- dried ginger
- chili powder
- pepper powder
- black pepper
- cinnamon (for breakfast)
- cardamom (for breakfast)
- olive oil
These spices help boost your metabolism (not sure about the curry and cardamom tho), and combining them you can make killer dressings or marinades without having to use salt. At least barely.
Im gonna share super simple recipes of a dressing and how to season salmon, either oven baked or in a frying pan:
Dressing (for a salad or cooked veggies)
Grate a lot of garlic. Put it in a little bowl and mix with olive oil, dried cilantro, ginger and lemon.
Optional: add a little sea salt and/or some fine chopped red onion!
Use the same base as the dressing. Grated garlic, lemon juice and olive oil. Add some chili powder, pepper and turmeric. Mix them all together and marinate the salmon.
Optional: for a more glazed flavour add some honey to the mixture. It contains sugar yes, but it's got other nutritious things that are good for you. Antioxidants for example.
You can also make Caramelized onions to go with the salmon. Simply chop an onion nicely, put in the frying pan with some olive oil and add a teaspoon of honey. My trick up the sleeve is to add some Dijon mustard to that!
