I have never enjoyed a compliment from my coach as much as when I get them from Cyrille.
Cause theyre rare. He doesn't tell you you're doing well if you're not. And being his student you know you're gonna have to work hard for him to approve. Call it perfectionism if you may.
Man I remember the first months of doing MMA, lol. He was yelling his ass off "NO Camila don't fall down, don't fucking drop flat on your ass!!!" , or simply just "NOOOO!!!".
I was kinda clueless, people were taking me down right and left, and I made so many mistakes, giving away arm bars for free and shit like that. Very frustrating.
However, I sucked it up, grid my teeth and got through that first period. I still do mistakes obviously, BUT my friends, I've lured a few compliments out of that ol' Snake! Oh Yesss!
That tough love works for me. It makes me better. I'm not sure it works for everyone tho, some people get sad and lack motivation when they don't get approval or constant positive motivation. But I dunno, I kind of feed off on the lack of comments or the brutal truth and want to prove myself. Even if I get butt hurt haha!
So if you're at work and you have a brutal boss, a teacher or even a parent that are constantly remarking your flaws -use it. Use it to get better. Even if your ego gets smacked around, even if that person doesn't have the best in your interest(not the case with Cyrille, it's definitely love towards his students that makes him hard on us), use those comments. Work on your flaws and be the best you can be. When you've overcome them you'll be able to enjoy success together! .
